Experience the Grandeur of Hearst Castle

A Journey Through History

Perched atop the hills overlooking California's central coast, Hearst Castle showcases the opulence and vision of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Designed by architect Julia Morgan, this lavish estate was built between 1919 and 1947, becoming a retreat for Hollywood’s elite and influential figures of the time. Visitors today can explore the castle’s grand rooms, expansive gardens, and stunning pools, all while enjoying breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

Your visit begins at the Hearst Castle Visitor Center, where you’ll immerse yourself in the estate’s rich history through exhibits and a captivating film, “Hearst Castle – Building the Dream.” The Visitor Center is also where you’ll catch the shuttle that winds its way up to the castle itself.

Upon arrival, you’ll step into a bygone era, wandering through ornate halls filled with European art, historic tapestries, and priceless antiques. The tours provide a glimpse into the life of Hearst and his illustrious guests, who were entertained in luxurious surroundings amidst the castle’s architectural splendor.

In addition to the main house, visitors can explore the Neptune Pool, a Roman-style masterpiece surrounded by marble colonnades, and the indoor Roman Pool, inspired by ancient Roman baths and adorned with shimmering blue and gold tiles.

Visiting Hearst Castle is not just about admiring architecture and art—it’s about reliving a piece of American history. The castle’s grandeur, its unique location, and the stories of its past make it a must-see destination for anyone traveling along California’s scenic Highway 1.
